The Mystery Guest by Nita Prose Book Review

The Mystery Guest by Nita Prose is a whodunnit novel that feature the beloved maid, Molly Gray. It's the second book in the series following The Maid. The primary setting is again the Regency Grand Hotel where Molly is currently holding the position of Head Maid. But suddenly, the hotel's hard earned reputation is again at risk when a famous mystery writer drops dead on the tearoom floor, before delivering a important speech. Molly knows this author very well and she is well aware of his many secrets. To unlock this mystery, Molly has to retreat in her past where she is just a little girl shaping herself with the wisdom from her Grandmother.

The protagonist Molly Gray has trouble with social skills. She is a very simple girl who has to suffer a lot since her childhood. Those unfortunate events has very prominent impact in her life. But, an object of taunt and jeers by insensitive people, Molly has made a life of her own with a little bit aid from her grandmother who reintroduced the world to her through simple life principals. The book has been told from her perspective. One get to see what shaped Molly's character since childhood. So, readers are bound to feel sympathetic to her character. The author also gives ample focus on side characters that makes characters like Mr Preston so dear to readers. After, reading so many thrillers, I have become a half Sherlock who saw what was coming but, the book kept me going until the very last page. So, I would say, the story telling style, the thrilling atmosphere and the use of language are commendable. The book is well structured with a interesting flow. The mystery and suspense elements keep one hooked from the very first chapter. It's a beginner reader-friendly read. A light-hearted cozy mystery page turner that one won't regret picking.
